Scream And Run how to escape
Backpacks, keys and the exit

Scream And Run how to escape is a four-step loop printed on the experience page: search abandoned classrooms, check backpacks for hidden keys, unlock the exit, and reach that exit while avoiding The Cat in the Hat. There is no published skip, no VIP server, and no official key colour chart. A first run is a search job under hunter pressure. Tick the checklist on this page for your current session only — the boxes do not track in-game badges or awards.

Search the classrooms first
Abandoned classrooms are the first place the official description sends you. Treat every room as a container, not scenery. Desks, corners, and the floor line around backpacks are the search surface. The hunter uses the same halls you use, so a classroom that looks empty can still be a trap if you linger in the doorway with the flashlight up.
The flashlight binding is F. Turn it on when you cannot read a backpack, and turn it off when a hall is already bright enough to silhouette you. Crouch (tap C) and crawl (hold C) exist for the same rooms: the lower stance is for moving past a lit doorway, not for skipping the search. If you skip bags in the first two rooms, you will arrive at the exit with nothing to put in a lock.
School is the map this loop was written for. Other places in the universe reuse the same verbs — search, carry, unlock — but the stills change. Mines is a track space with a train hunter in the screenshot. Play Place is a structure space with a clown hunter in the screenshot. Start on School if you want the classroom-and-backpack text to match the walls you see.
Backpacks, keys and locks
Hidden keys are the only unlock tool the experience page names. They sit in backpacks. A backpack that looks decorative is still a search target. Pick up a key when you find it and keep moving; standing over an open bag is how the hunter gets a free look at you.
Public runs talk about coloured keys that match coloured locks. Cruz's playthrough and HatiPG's short both show that matching, and they do not agree on how many colours a full clear needs. Carry whatever key you actually found to the lock that accepts it, then go back for the next bag. If a lock does not take the key in your hand, you are holding the wrong colour, not a broken item.
The exit is a lock set, not a teleport. Unlocking is a separate step from reaching the door. Players who find keys and then die in the hall still have to recover the search; the badge is awarded for leaving, not for holding a key. School's lit-map badge is Escape The Cat In The Hat. The lights-out version is a different badge with a much smaller awarded count.
Leave while the hunter is still in the building
The Cat in the Hat is the named hunter on School. Official stills put that figure in halls, stalls, and a playground. Line of sight is the threat: if you can see the hat, the hat can take the run. Break the sightline with a stall, a corner, or a crawl into a dark strip, then resume the bag search. Do not sprint the full length of a lit locker hall unless you already have the last key and a clear door.
Run is Shift. Slide is Shift plus C. Those two bindings are for crossing open floor, not for fighting. There is no published stun, no published hide-in-locker guarantee, and no published stun item on the experience page. Movement and darkness are the tools you actually have. On a No Power round the same tools matter more because the map itself is darker; read No Power before you try that badge.
If you want a picture of one public server's pacing, the Cruz playthrough on this page is a community video, not a studio trailer. It can go out of date when a map or badge ships. Use it after you know the four official steps, not instead of them.
What public runs show
Community footage adds three observed details on top of the official loop. First, keys and locks are coloured, and a key only opens the lock that shares its colour. Second, Hide And Seek can put a player in the cat role, which is a different job from the Escape key hunt. Third, a chase scream shows up in short clips when the hunter closes distance. None of those three details freeze a numeric key list.
Treat a public run as one server's evening, not as a patch note. Awarded badge counts on Badges are the better measure of how often a full clear actually happens. Escape The Cat In The Hat has 819,131 awards at a 4.9 percent win rate. The No Power school badge has 48,687 awards at 0.1 percent. If your run feels rare, the table already says the lights-out clears are the rare ones.
When you are ready to pick a place instead of a verb, open Maps for School, Mines, Play Place, and the mode-specific places. When you want the hunter stills without the checklist, open The Cat in the Hat. A first School clear that awards Escape The Cat In The Hat is the lit exit; the dark partner is a later attempt on the same bags.
